Human Ecology and Development

  • The Human Ecology and Development strategic line, like the FGCSIC's other strategic lines, aims to promote high impact projects with a multidisciplinary focus. In particular, this line will promote projects looking at the interactions that exist between human beings and their environment in the broadest sense.

The interactions that exist between human beings and their environment may be addressed either by focusing on human beings themselves as the object of study, or by considering the multiple relations they establish with their environment. Some of the processes and problems that may be looked at by this line include:

human ecology
  • Human beings' states of dependence on the environment around them (nutrition, energy, water).
  • The alterations humans produce in their environment (migrations, transport, territorial organisation, urbanisation).
  • Phenomena in which these two elements interact (economics, climate change).

A wide range of projects can be covered by this line and it will embrace a very broad spectrum of topics: ranging from social conflict and immigration, through to agricultural policy, new cultivation methods and environmental impact, the utilisation of wastes or biological hydrogen generation.
