Strategic Lines

The Fundación General CSIC's Strategic lines are conceived of as open and interdisciplinary research programmes which aim to stimulate a multidisciplinary approach to scientific practice from a plurality of perspectives so as to allow multifaceted results to be obtained in the study of scientific facts and phenomena.

Fundación General CSIC aims to play an active role in the public-private interaction in the Spanish R&D system. Therefore, as well as acting as a vehicle and management body channelling private finance towards public entities, the Foundation also has a series of Strategic lines, which are funded from its own budget jointly with other public and private sources.

The definition of our strategic lines is based on the conviction that a multidisciplinary approach to problems can yield solutions that could not be achieved by working within traditional scientific disciplines in isolation, which tend to produce more constrained black-and-white results. We are convinced that research into issues of the first order and general interest, such as energy, ageing, migratory movements, social change, etc. needs to be conducted from a multiple perspective.

The Foundation wishes to stimulate this interdisciplinary approach, and to do so our strategic lines are not oriented towards specific scientific disciplines, but focus on needs or issues of a scientific, social, economic, knowledge-related nature.

The FGCSIC's strategic lines focus on the following topics:

Threatened Species

The Fundación General CSIC'sThreatened Species line aims to promote the running of high impact research projects aimed at protecting or preserving species in danger of extinction.

Ageing, Disability and Illness

Research projects addressing these problems from various disciplines will be promoted. Not just the biomedical aspects, but also issues of a biomechanical, social, psychological nature, etc.
